Lesson 9

Trailer, dimensions and reversing

Core principles for BE and CE: width, length, trajectory, mirrors and space margin.

Trailer, dimensions and reversing

With a trailer, the vehicle combination becomes longer, wider in maneuvers and less forgiving. Path planning starts earlier than in a car without a trailer.

During turns, more room is needed because the trailer cuts the corner. In narrow places, the driver monitors both the front and the rear of the combination.

Reversing with a trailer requires small angles and calm correction. If the angle becomes too sharp, straighten and restart the maneuver.

This lesson explains why BE and CE categories need separate practice even when a driver is already confident with a car or truck.

How we train this in class
  • break the rule down on a clear diagram
  • reinforce it with test questions
  • move the situation to a real Dnipro route
